Brick cleaning · Queenstown & Wanaka

Brick & block cleaning, without wrecking the mortar.

Clay brick, concrete block, retaining walls and heritage masonry — cleaned with chemistry, not pressure. We respect the construction and the substrate so the wall comes out clean without being damaged in the process.

The brick we work with

Every brick has its own chemistry.

  • Clay brick façades

From the 1950s clay brick homes in older Cromwell and Alexandra to architectural feature walls in modern builds. Each clay has a different absorbency — using the wrong acid wash can blanch the brick or attack the mortar. We test first.

  • Concrete block walls

Boundary walls, retaining walls and block-built homes. Concrete block is porous and grows lichen aggressively in shaded areas. Our biocide treatment kills the spore base, not just the visible growth.

  • Heritage brick & block

Older Central Otago buildings often have brick with soft lime mortar that high-pressure water destroys. We use low-pressure methods and pH-neutral chemistry that respects the original construction.

  • Brick retaining walls

Garden retaining walls accumulate algae on the damp side and lichen on the sunny side. Both need different chemistry. We treat the whole wall as a system, not a surface.

  • Post-construction brick

New brick work often arrives with mortar splatter, drywall dust and rebar staining from the build. We do the post-construction brick clean before the building handover so the new wall looks the way the architect intended.

  • Efflorescence on brick

White salt staining ('efflorescence' or 'leaching stone') is a chronic problem on brick in damp conditions. We remove the surface deposit and address the moisture cause so it doesn't keep returning.

How we work

Slow when it matters, fast when it doesn’t.

  • 01

    Test before we commit

Different brick handles different chemistry. We spot-test a small area to confirm the cleaner won't blanch the brick, attack the mortar, or react with any iron content.

  • 02

    Mortar-safe method

Low-pressure soft wash paired with the right pH for the substrate. We never blast soft mortar joints out of older brick walls.

  • 03

    Targeted chemistry

Different problems need different cleaners. Lichen kill, efflorescence treatment, mortar splatter removal — we carry a full kit and use the right one.

  • 04

    Optional sealing

Once clean, we can apply a breathable brick sealer that repels water and slows the return of lichen, moss and efflorescence.
