Stone cleaning in Queenstown.
Queenstown's premium residential and commercial buildings feature some of the country's most distinctive stone work — and almost all of it is local Otago schist or Ōamaru stone. We're based in town and clean it properly, the way the stone wants.
Working in Queenstown
The local conditions that change how we work.
Queenstown's alpine climate is harder on stone than most. Frost cycles, intense UV, and proximity to the lake means stone surfaces get a beating they wouldn't anywhere else. The wrong cleaning method — particularly high-pressure water blasting — accelerates damage rather than restoring the surface. We use low-pressure soft wash and tailored chemistry that respects the substrate.
Whether it's a heritage façade or a private residence, we adapt our method to the surface, the exposure and the season. Our team is on the ground in Queenstown Lakes weekly — call-outs to Queenstown are part of the normal schedule, not a special trip.

Queenstown FAQs
Common local questions.
Do you clean stone walls in Arrowtown and the older heritage areas?
Yes — Arrowtown's heritage schist walls are some of the most rewarding work we do. We've cleaned several without disturbing the original mortar joints or moss-pointing. Heritage rules can vary by site, so we factor in whatever the QLDC or NZHPT requires.
Will water blasting damage the schist on my property?
Done wrong, yes. Schist has soft mica layers that flake under high pressure, and the mortar between stones is easily blown out. We use low-pressure soft wash systems with the right cleaner for the specific stone and the algae or staining we're treating — never just high-pressure water alone.
How long does a typical Queenstown stone clean take?
A residential schist feature wall or façade is usually a one-day job. Larger commercial or multi-element jobs (boundary walls plus paving plus a façade) can take 2–4 days. Our quote includes a clear timeline.
Do you also seal the stone after cleaning?
Most clients combine the two — clean and seal in one visit. Sealing locks in the result and stops moss, water and salt damage coming back. See our /stone-sealing/queenstown page for the full sealing process.
