Exterior Concrete Cleaning & Protective Sealing The exterior concrete at the ROKI Collection hotel showed visible efflorescence and leaching, caused by salts and moisture moving through the concrete. Along with construction residue and laitance on the surface, this prevented the concrete from performing and ageing as it should in Queenstown’s harsh alpine environment. All external concrete surfaces were professionally acid washed to remove contamination and open the pores of the concrete. This preparation step was essential to ensure the treatment could properly penetrate rather than sit on the surface. After cleaning, the concrete was sealed using a penetrating Micro Seal treatment. Unlike a surface coating, this system soaks into the concrete and creates long-term hydrophobic protection while keeping the natural appearance intact. The treatment helps: • reduce water absorption • minimise staining and moisture damage • slow future deterioration • lower ongoing maintenance requirements The completed work restored a clean, even appearance across the exterior concrete while significantly improving durability and protection against weather exposure.
